Sitting atop the 238 meter-high Roppongi Hills Mori Tower in Tokyo, the mesmerizing transparent sphere resembling a spaceship is the grand installation by French artist Vincent Leroy. Appropriately named Illusion Lens, it perfectly captures the vibrant Tokyo night skyline. Its structure allows it to act as a multi-faceted light sensor, reflecting images and light through its transparent, complex form.
Leroy loves to refer to the installation as “the sampler of the sky”, as it captures its surrounding climate and twists the image into multiple pieces. It surely is an escapists’ dream, whether contemplating and reflecting in peace alone or with loved ones.
